Acai bowls are trendy. And trendy food gets a lot of speculation. What’s the fuss? Are its health benefits endless? Why do I need an acai bowl in my life?

I get it. Just because it’s trending doesn’t mean you will love it. But hear me out. You will probably love it. Especially if you’re making it at home to custom tailor your taste buds.

But first. What is an acai bowl?

An acai bowl starts with your acai base. Acai is a berry which comes from the acai palm tree – native to Central and South America. The acai bowl originates from Brazil. You blend the acai fruit into a puree and serve in a bowl. The result? A cold, creamy delicious bowl of goodness that has no limits.

The Base In This Acai Bowl Recipe

Now, you could probably leave the base at just an acai puree. But if you want to take this bowl up a notch, let me show you how.

I combine other goodies with this superfood. So what goes in the base?

Frozen banana. I find bananas are almost a necessity in any smoothie base. Bananas add creaminess, sweetness, and balance the flavors out perfectly!

Berries. Blitzing that acai with berries of your choice means more flavor and more antioxidants! I love using blueberries and strawberries. Plus, they add in that beautiful color you see!

Milk of your choice. Almond milk and oat milk work wonderfully here!

Your acai concoction has been dished out. Now comes the fun! You get to choose your choice of toppings! Granola, bananas, frozen berries, and chia seeds are my favorite acai bowl toppings.

Enjoy this powerhouse of fiber and antioxidants in the comfort of your home for a fraction of the cost!
