Out of ideas? No problem, this easy watermelon salad has got your back!
If you are still not sure what to make for the 4th of July, here is a quick refreshing last-minute salad. Sometimes just putting a few of your favorite fruit together is all you need for a great summer salad. I recently posted a blog post on fruits and vegetables that help you stay hydrated, click here to read.
When I come to those July 4th barbecues and see a large bowl of fruit salad, I already know I’ll be enjoying sweet watermelon and whatever else is in that bowl of goodness. A red white and blue salad are one of the most fun ideas in the summer season and this bright, fun holiday. The weather and seasonal produce is also a great way to support your health.
One of the fruits is a sweet, crisp and refreshing watermelon. It is 92 percent water. A little over a cup of watermelon, and you’ve just had the equivalent of n 8oz glass of water. All the ingredients in this summer are very much in season, so will be easy to find. In fact, every ingredient of this watermelon feta salad is easy to find at the grocery store.
You can change up the shape of this salad if you’d like!
This salad is fun to make, especially if yo have a melon baller. Instead of making square-shaped and cut watermelon, the shape can match the blueberries and make it interesting to look at, too. I don’t think that salty feta cheese holds up well in circle shape, so crumbling it works best.
What is the difference between seeded and seedless watermelon?
Genetically modified produce is something that we have to individually learn about to know if it’s something we’d like to eat or not. I was happy to find out that seedless watermelon is not genetically modified. In the creation of the seedless watermelon, it was simply crossbred rather than actually having it’s genes tampered with. Seedless watermelons tend to be even sweeter and have a more likable texture than seeded watermelon. If you choose to go the easier route when shopping, you don’t have to be cautious of GMO or taste!
Summer time has us all eating fresh fruit and veggie salads. This great salad is my favorite to take on the go for a lake day. I prepare the ingredients separately and then toss them together in a big bowl when the kids are ready to eat. The sweetness of the watermelon just perfectly works with the salty feta and sweet blueberries. Fresh mint leaves is one of my favorite herbs and I will never hesitate to use it in a fresh and easy recipe. Every time I make it, the whole thing is gone because my kids love it so much! It’s a great dessert to a summer meal cooked outside on the grill. Whether it’s Labor day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, any patriotic holiday, or just a regular evening with the family, this easy fruit salad with plump blueberries always hits the spot.

What will I need to make this recipe?
Fresh watermelon is hydrating and gives your body vitamins A and C.
Blueberries prevent damage caused by free radicals.
Feta cheese gives your body protein and is the perfectly salty addition to the fruits in this salad.
Mint supports your digestive system.
