Vegan Healthy of Rice Crispy Treats (Easy Recipe)

When I was a little kid, we would make homemade rice krispy treats pretty often. They were cheaper than ready-made, and one box of cereal made enough for the whole family to have a few treats. Now that we are older, we are also smarter in choosing healthier ingredients.

Sometimes, I miss childhood where we ate anything at all and never worried about what it will do to our bodies. Nourishing our bodies and keeping them healthy wasn’t a concern. The freedom we had in eating just about anything was vast.

While those days might have felt simpler, I’m glad I know more now and can make healthier choices and teach my kids about them, too! For example: these Homemade Healthy Rice Crispy Treats. They aren’t filled with high fructose corn syrup, “natural flavors”, or other ingredients that may be hard to pronounce. My kids enjoy these treats just the same!

Sometimes, a recipe labeled “gluten free” can still have ingredients with trace amounts of gluten, especially if it calls for store bought ingredients. If you’re making this recipe and want a true gluten-free experience, check all the ingredients and information on packaged food. Make sure you’re definitely not ingesting any gluten!

Expert Tips

  • When pressing the mixture into the baking pan, use a bit of water on your hands to prevent sticking. This way you can ensure a flat, even surface on the top of these treats!
  • Don’t skip the pinch of salt! Even in sweet recipes it adds a delicious balance to all the ingredients.
  • For a firmer texture, refrigerate the treats for at least an hour before slicing. This also makes them easier to cut into neat squares.
  • Consider mixing in chopped nuts, dried fruits, vegan rainbow sprinkles, or vegan chocolate chips for added texture and flavor.
  • Line the baking dish with parchment paper to make removal from the pan easier.
  • Drizzle melted dark chocolate over the top for an added layer of decadence.
