Delicious and Simple Homemade Bread Recipe

Whether you’re a newbie in the homemade bread club, or you’re an expert, this is the perfect recipe for simple bread! Conveniently made in your kitchen.

There’s nothing quite like a slice of freshly baked bread topped with a generous helping of butter. And it doesn’t get much fresher than baked right in your oven. Oh, your house will be smelling amazing! You’ll think you’re inside of a bakery. My family loves waking up on the weekend to the smell of bread baking.

I know what you’re thinking. Marina! Why would I bake bread at home when I could pick it up at the supermarket?

I’ll tell you why.

In fact, I’ll give you five reasons why you should bake bread at home.

1. It’s a pretty hands-off recipe.

Using a bread machine really helps with this. So if you’ve got other tasks to tend to, you can still fit in making bread.

2. It’s cheap.

I’m talking in cents. It costs less than half of a dollar to make a loaf of bread at home. That’s unheard of!

3. You know exactly what’s going in.

Here’s the thing. Have you ever seen the nutrition label on store-bought bread? Sometimes the list of ingredients is looong. If you’re making it at home, you’re using only a handful of ingredients. Everything that you’re familiar with, and can pronounce.

4. It smells amazing.

I know I’ve mentioned this up top, but it really is one of the main reasons many people enjoy making their own bread.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • cups water
  • tsp salt
  • tsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp dry active yeast
  • 4 Tbsp oil
  • 3 cups flour

Instructions

  • Into the bread machine bucket add all the ingredients. Be sure to add the flour last.
1½ cups water, 1½ tsp salt, 1½ tsp sugar, 1 Tbsp dry active yeast, 4 Tbsp oil, 3 cups flour
  • If you don’t have a bread machine, you could just mix it all together (add the flour last) until it forms a nice soft dough. Let it sit for an hour and rise, then bake. (It will be done rising when it has doubled in size).
  • If using the bread machine, turn it on the Rapid setting (some say Rapid Bread). It will be somewhere around 3 hours, mine says 2 hours and 50 minutes.
  • You can choose to leave the dough in the bread machine, to rise and to bake. This is what I usually do. Today however, I took it out after the dough had been mixed well in the machine (for exactly and hour). I then transfer it to a skillet, this skillet I use only for bread; I got the idea from my mother in law.
  • The bread then sits out for another hour. It will double the size, and will smell so good!
  • After 1 hour, turn on your oven to 350F and put the bread in to bake.
  • After 30 minutes of baking the bread, get a sheet of foil paper and just place the sheet as is on top of the bread so the top doesn’t get too dark, give it another 10 minutes and take the bread out. Enjoy!

Notes

Put the ingredients into a bread machine and let it do all the work.
