Russian Braised Cabbage Recipe (Тушеная капуста)

Braised cabbage is a wonderful healthy dish but can also be added into Braised Cabbage Piroshki.

  • 1 head cabbage, shredded
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 Tbsp tomato paste
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp unsalted butter

Instructions

  • Shred cabbage into a bowl. Chop the onion and grate the carrot, then set aside in a separate bowl.

  • In a pan, melt the butter and add the cabbage. Saute for 1 minute.

  • Add in the onion and carrot. Stir.

  • Add in salt (I use sea salt) and tomato paste.

  • Over low heat sauté all together, stirring occasionally.

  • After 10 minutes, the cabbage will be ready to eat. You may add salt to your taste if needed.
