If you’re looking for a new homemade burger recipe, this is it. These chicken burgers are so full of flavor, you’d never believe how easy they are to make! Whether you serve in between hamburger buns or as is, they’re sure to be a hit in your home.

There’s nothing like sitting with a big, juicy burger in front of you, am I right? Except sometimes, if it’s one of those burgers from a fast food joint, the guilt comes in quickly.

Was it worth it?

Do I even know what all was in here?

Was this even real meat?

Sometimes, you just have to down that burger, because, well, that’s what life’s all about right? Enjoying it. But sometimes, you really wish you had an alternative.

Well, I’ve got one for you. And it is amazing. This chicken burger is not skimpy. It’s full of flavor – no buns necessary.

What goes into these chicken burgers (aka Kotleti)?

Ground chicken thighs. if you use chicken breast, your burger will be too dry. Chicken thighs have a good amount of fat that makes the burger juicy and flavorful.

Flour. This helps retain the shape while frying. No broken burgers here!

Sour cream and mayo. They add a tremendous amount of moisture. Remember, we don’t want any dry burgers.

Egg. For binding.

Spices. I’ve used black pepper and salt here. But feel free to add garlic and/or paprika for some heat.

Bread crumbs. This is what you’ll coat your burgers with. For a tasty, crunchy, texture.

Along with those ingredients, you will need an onion and olive oil.

Steps

Grind the meat and onion through a meat grinder or a food processor.

In a bowl, mix together ground chicken, flour, mayo, sour cream, egg, black pepper, salt and onion.

In a separate small bowl or shallow plate add in the bread crumbs

Take about 1 Tablespoon of meat and roll into breadcrumbs, then shape into a hamburger patty.

Heat up oil on medium heat, (oil needs to be just enough to cover the pan all around) you don’t want your kotleti to be oily but don’t want to them dry either.

Add shaped kotleti one by one into heated oil, and start frying on medium heat.

When you see kotleti to begin to brown on the bottom, turn them over and fry the other side.

Fry until the other side browns up too, then transfer them into a covered dish.

These kotleti can be served with mashed potatoes and gravy, or spaghetti with tomato sauce or even on their own! Enjoy!

NOTES

Chicken thighs are best for this recipe. Using chicken breasts will make the Kotleti too dry.
Tip: If you do grind the meat and onion in a food processor, add a little bit of water so the onion grinds better.

If you are short on time, you could fry the Kotleti right away, in a frying pan on medium heat. However; if you do have the time, shape all of the meat into patties (kotleti are usually shaped into oval, but it’s really up to you how you want them to look) and freeze them until ready to cook.
