This Braised Cabbage recipe is impressive. Using only a few humble ingredients, it is full of flavor.

Raise your hand if you’re obsessed with cabbage. It is seriously such an underrated vegetable that serves so many purposes! You can use it in a ridiculous amount of dishes. It is always on my grocery list because it is so versatile. I think it deserves all the glory cauliflower and broccoli are getting these days. But then again, I wouldn’t want to start a veggie war.

I’ve been meaning to share this recipe for a long time. One of my absolute favorite things to do with it makes this incredible braised cabbage dish. It is so tasty! It combines shredded cabbage, onions, carrots, tomato paste, and butter. I love finding favorite ways to use regular green cabbage in the kitchen.

With just a bit of effort and love, cabbage wedges can turn into a perfect delicacy at the table. It can make a great side dish. It’s so easy to make that it might become your favorite recipe; who knows?

So what can you do/ make with braised cabbage?

You can eat it as is, on the side, or as a salad. Seriously, it is so good.

Make my famous Braised Cabbage Piroshki. It’s the ultimate Russian street food. Piroshki, in general, make fantastic meal and is even good the next day. They’re great for meal prep and are cozy comfort food. That’s a great way to enjoy them!

Homemade egg rolls. This would make an incredible filling!

Top your burgers with it. Instead of adding coleslaw into your sandwich/burger next time, try adding this humble cabbage. You might be surprised at how this easy braised cabbage recipe can elevate your meal. From a cabbage side dish to a delicious burger topping, cabbage can improve many recipes without having to be the main ingredient.

Russian Braised Cabbage (Тушеная капуста)

Do you want to know my favorite part of this easy side dish?

It comes together in less than 15 minutes, start to finish. After chopping and cutting your vegetables, you saute everything in butter for only 10 minutes. I’m all about quick recipes that require little effort, and this is one of them. The result of this recipe is loads of great flavor!

If you like this braised cabbage, try making a big batch next time to use in other recipes! It works great in other Russian or Ukrainian traditional recipes.

Let’s gather our equipment.

To chop up the cabbage, You’ll need a sharp knife and cutting boards. Also, a grater works in shredding the cabbage. To cook, you’ll need a large skillet. When sautéing the cabbage, I like to use a wooden spoon, but I’d recommend using a slotted spoon to remove the savoy cabbage from the skillet.

Let’s put this braised cabbage together! Ingredients for braised cabbage:

1 head of fresh cabbage, which is available year-round and contains fiber but is low in calories. It supports your digestive system.

1 carrot to add a delicious flavor while supporting your eye health with vitamin A.

1 large onion also adds that touch of extra flavor; meanwhile, it fights inflammation.

3 Tablespoons of tomato paste can make any recipe a great recipe with their heart-healthy benefits.

Half a teaspoon of salt is a classic addition to every simple recipe.

1 Tablespoon of unsalted butter to saute the cabbage is necessary.

Also, you could add fresh parsley for garnish.

How to Store Braised Cabbage?

Store braised cabbage in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Cooked cabbage reheats excellently in a pan with a little bit of butter and lasts up to 5 days.

Shred 1 head of cabbage into a bowl and add chopped onion and grated carrot.
